ANAMA establishes special group for searching and disarming underwater mines
Baku. Rashad Suleymanov – APA. Azerbaijan National Agency for Mine Action (ANAMA) will establish a special group for searching and disarming underwater mines and unexploded ordinances (UXO), chief operation expert of ANAMA Adil Aslanov told APA.
Aslanov said that mines and UXOs are regularly found in water basins, lakes and canals in Azerbaijan. This problem is also observed in areas located away from the frontline: “For example, an ammunition depot formerly located in the area of the tank battalion was left underwater as sea level rose. There are dangerous corroded mines in that area. Thus, we need to establish a special group for disarming mines and buy equipments for underwater operations.”
ANAMA expert said that he was also interested in underwater mine clearing operations carried out in Iraq, Kuwait and other countries.
He said that ANAMA would establish an underwater operations group soon.
